Dear Parents,
My name is Jordan Weninger, and I am the music teacher here at St. Thomas. I currently live in Champaign with my husband Tim and our dog, Brady. We moved to Champaign in the fall of 2009 because Tim is getting his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in computer/data sciences. We are originally from Hutchinson, Kansas, which is about 9.5 hours west of here. I attended the Catholic schools in Hutchinson from K-12 where I played the Oboe and Alto Saxophone in the Jr/Sr high school bands. I also attended Hutchinson Community College and transferred to Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. While at K-State, I was a Music Education major, and I was involved in the marching and concert Bands. I graduated from Kansas State with my Bachelors in Music Education in December 2008. I currently hold teaching certificates in the States of Kansas and Illinois.
Music classes at St. Thomas have already started and I have really enjoyed getting to know your children and creating music with them, as I hope each student has too! In order to get all the students participating, discussing and enjoying music, I have created a daily point system. If a student fails to follow one of these expectations they will lose a point. Each student is aware of this because I introduced it on our first day of music classes and because they are posted in the classroom. The expectations are as follows:
Listen: to classmates and teachers; for directions;
Respect: classmates, teachers and yourself; instruments and school property;
Raise Your Hand: to participate in class discussion or activities; ask a question;
Participate: in class discussion and activities; in moving, singing and playing;
Also, every student gets a point for being in class on time and not leaving during class. This allows for a total of 5 points per day.
I really look forward to bringing new ideas to the music program here! I also look forward to meeting each and every one of you this school year! For your convenience, I have also listed our music schedule and scheduled music events.
